Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften – Berlin 2026

The Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Long Night of Sciences) is Berlin's most ambitious science event of the year. For one night, universities, research institutes, laboratories, and scientific organisations across the city throw open their doors and invite the public in — for free or a symbolic entry fee — to experience science up close.

What to Expect

Hundreds of events run simultaneously: live experiments, guided tours of labs normally closed to the public, lectures by leading researchers, science shows for kids, and interactive installations. Past editions have included telescope observations, robot demonstrations, chemistry experiments you can participate in, and talks on everything from climate science to neuroscience.

Why Go

This is genuinely one of the best free (or near-free) events in Berlin's annual calendar. The sheer scale is impressive — you could spend the entire night moving between venues and still not see everything. It's also a brilliant way for expats and newcomers to discover parts of Berlin they'd never otherwise visit.

Who It's For

Everyone. Families with children, students, professionals, curious adults. Language is mostly German, but many institutes offer English explanations, especially at international research centres.

Getting There

Venues are spread across the city. A central ticket (where applicable) typically covers shuttle buses between sites. S-Bahn and U-Bahn run extended hours for the event.
